About

Born 1956 in Cheshire and Educated in Oxford Justin opted for farming as his first career. A love of the outdoors, animals and long hours doing challenging hands on work kept him on the farm for over 20 years. During this time he also pursued his love and passion for photography. Having his own darkroom in the back of his tied  farm cottage he spent as many hours printing as he did milking and calving cows at all times of the night and day.

On moving to Somerset Justin signed on to Ron Frampton's Photography course at Dillington House and in 2000 gained his ARPS after 5 years of intense and dedicated printing and film photography.

In the following year came the worst Foot & Mouth outbreak the UK had seen for many years and at this point Justin decided to concentrate on his photography for a living. Farming had changed to such a degree becoming ever more intensive and smaller farms were being replaced by ever larger units.

Weddings proved to be the most secure way forward and 12 years of shooting weddings ensued. Initially it was all film with many hours again spent printing and delivering very special bespoke albums which would be treasured for many years. Sometime later digital arrived and with it came a change of perception about photography.

In 2010 a drift towards Commercial Photography and Documentary photography started to take him to where he is today. This site represents his current work and ambitions.

Now working more precisely with digital yet still working with film Justin continues to work full time as a photographer of many different subjects. Living in Somerset requires a wide variety of photographic skills and abilities.

Justin is a member of the Wessex Contemporary Arts Group and also runs the Millhouse Gallery at Ilminster. His work is very much influenced by contemporary artists and he continues to exhibit as a photographer whenever possible.

His personal work continues to concentrate on Portraiture and Contemporary Abstract Art as well as documenting the lives of traditional workers.
